Duplex stainless steel (1.4462 or 4462 stainless steel) is an extremely corrosion resistant stainless steel grade. These stainless steels of 1.4462 quality show a higher resistance to corrosion compared to 304 and 316 quality materials and have both austenitic and ferretic stainless steel properties chemically. Stainless steel of this quality is harder than ferretic stainless steels and is twice as resistant to rupture than austenitic materials.
Duplex stainless is a stainless steel grade that has been increasing in use recently in Turkey and in the world. Duplex stainless steel has started to be used in many areas where strength and lightness are required, as it has similar properties to 304 and 316 quality stainless steels, as well as its durability values (yielding, breaking and torsion) are at a very high level.
Although this stainless steel quality is higher in terms of cost per kilogram compared to other grades, it is a product that stands out in terms of price / performance because it can reach a high level of durability in thinner materials. Materials of this quality, which are frequently used in areas requiring strength, flexibility and durability, are used in pump shafts, boat shafts, propeller construction, special hydroelectric power plants, food industry, chemical industry and machine production. Duplex stainless is as flexible as austenetic stainless steels and has a very high degree of mechanical strength and corrosion resistance. For these reasons, it is recommended to use stainless steel materials of this quality wherever quality, lightness and durability are sought.
